Kingbrown Magazine
INDEPENDENT ART PERIODICAL.
Quarterly Art Magazine

I always wanted to work for an art magazine, but there were none in my hometown—so a few friends and I made our own. We created an art magazine that documented the creative process, visiting each artist in their studio and photographing them in their natural environment, intentionally capturing their tools, their setups, and the little quirks that make their work unique.

Every issue also featured a top-down still life of the artist’s favourite studio items, giving readers a peek at the “tools of the trade” behind their practice.

It’s a limited-edition, full-colour art periodical that I curate and art-direct, complete with my hand-drawn typography throughout. Each copy comes inside a hand-silkscreened paper bag packed with zines, posters, stickers, and other treasures. The bag is sewn shut across the top—so the collector has to tear it open, turning the unwrapping into a small ritual and a big moment of joy.

A key element of the magazine was documenting the artists process.
Here is a video of Mike Giant creating a piece in LES, NY.

The best feature of Kingbrown Magazine was tearing open the bag to see what goodies are inside.
